Arriving on scene with music in his veins, the Suffolk, Virginia-based acoustic rock raconteur, Adam Irvin, began his musical career at age eight, when he first picked up his dad’s guitar and quickly surpassed the talents of the elder Irvin. Evoking the youthful angst and nostalgia of both the 1960s and 1990s British invasions, Irvin’s work is influenced by the essences all genres of music and his experience working with bands such as Karmic, The Assassins and the more recent, The Marvels.

“I was born with music inside me. Music was one of my parts. Like my ribs, my kidneys, my liver, my heart. Like my blood. It was a force already within me when I arrived on scene.” Ray Charles |
The beginnings of Irvin’s music matched so many young aspiring musicians’ dreams: wildly frenetic , gritty and resolutely in search of the basic ingredients of rock and roll. The tunes have since matured into what now sounds like richly layered melodies and well-crafted lyrics, painted on canvas to create a vivid soundscape; the idyllic harmony of Paul McCartney and Noel Gallagher gently rolling along in places, and the somber, dark tones the likes of Thom Yorke and David Gilmour, bleeding into the lines. The resulting blend is a work not of industry, but of art. Irvin is currently working on a sophomore album to follow 2009’s “Adam Irvin,” recorded in Greenville, NC by the hometown celebrated Parmalee bassist, Barry Knox. Irvin’s constantly evolving ear for the perfect sound will reflect on this new endeavor which features orchestral elements fused into modern alternative. He continues to perform at locally renowned venues such as Winston’s, Baron’s Pub and occasionally the Norva, among several notable musical sites in the Hampton Roads area.
